The ceramic and mixed-media installation "A Little Birdy Told Me" explores the nature of human connection. It is an examination of what is lost when the act of communication is stripped of auditory cues - how what is heard (or not heard) impacts one’s experience of the world. In its contemplation of meaning, truth and context, “A Little Birdy Told Me” recalls a past where direct human interaction provided a context for information exchange and informed one’s ability to discern fact from fiction.

The repetition of rotary phones, hands and birds against tangled chords and telephone wires conjures the power of the voice spoken versus the quantized sounds of contemporary American culture. It represents a longing for the song of nature - a time when the cacophony came not from the streets, but from the trees; and questions how the disconnection from our natural surroundings informs our everyday experience.
