Obama Rocks Art -
www.obamarocksart.comAs a Denver artist who was unable to secure tickets to Obama's speech at Invesco Field during the Democratic National Convention, I wanted to do something to soak up the energy on that historic day. So I decided to bike down to the field with my brother and sister and join in the festivities in my own way.
We loaded fifty pounds of small clay balls into my bike trailer (my brother rollerbladed) and approached people on line with the following line, "Hi, can I get you to make an Obama Rock? I am a local artist working on a project to document this day. What I am asking you to do is to take this ball of clay, think your hope, squeeze it into the clay, return it to me, and check my website to see how it turns out." My brother or sister would then add, "You will be part of an art project" and then hand each person a piece of paper with my website printed on it.
I received such an enthusiastic response to the "Obama Rocks" that I have decided to continue the project until the election. These rocks were displayed as part of an art installation at NEXT Gallery
