I conceived of "Race" after hearing a story on National Public Radio during the Democratic Primaries. The story covered the role of race and gender in the election. An African-American mother in Texas was quoted as saying she was going to vote for Barack Obama because she had three black sons. I have two sons. Upon hearing that statement, I suddenly felt deeply connected to all mothers who are considering the range of issues in the upcoming election.
The political process is such a highly publicized public process. Yet, when it comes down to individual choice and opinion, politics is personal. In the end, we all make choices that matter most to those we love. This piece is about the Presidential race and race relations. Most importantly, it is about the human race and how deeply connected we all are as members of the human race.
